Substance Abuse Counselors
Use the Walk-With Assistant to offer your clients additional support and encouragement, to promote accountability in treatment, and to increase compliance with homework assignments.
How can the Walk-With Assistant benefit my clients?
Schedule a WWA session that shows all the local meeting times and places for your client’s easy reference.Â
- If there is a need for increased accountability, instruct the session to time/date stamp when your client reports being at a meeting.
Schedule a WWA session that tracks your client’s intensity of substance use cravings at different times throughout each day between scheduled appointments.
- Instruct the WWA session to show your client lists of his or her specific strategies for resisting cravings based on reported intensity. For example, if the client reports her cravings are at a 9 or 10 currently, the WWA session could instruct her to call her sponsor immediately, provide local meeting times, and list the specific reasons she developed for why she wants to stay clean and sober.
- View the collected information prior to or during the patient’s scheduled appointment.Â
- Slice the information by the day, the week, the hour of the day, or other ways to easily spot patterns, identify problems, and, as treatment progresses, track and document progress toward treatment goals.
Schedule a WWA session that will:
- remind your client to complete homework assignments,
- provide homework assignment instructions to the client for easy reference, and, time stamp their verification each time they complete an assignment
